A Brief History of Excellence through Adaptation

Deep Rhetorical Foundations, A Working Architecture for Change

We know the bedrock on which we stand. From the philosophical rhetoric of Thales and Anaximander to the inquiries of Socrates, the formalism of Plato, the narrative histories of Herodotus, the structural rhetoric of Aristotle, and the persuasions of Cicero, our footing on the bedrock of written expressions of the human experience is firm. With the printing press came the Chancery Standard, and we can cite modernity's great-grandchildren, The Chicago Manual of Style and The Elements of Style, and the AP, APA, and MLA manuals as if they were verse. But language is porous and business and media needs are everchanging, and what we understand best is that great content is aesthetically shapely and functionally shapeshifting. Language, above all, is adaptive.

The Sandstone Vision: Precision, Curiosity, and Scalability

Literacy extends far beyond the written word, particularly in our jet-speed, complex social, environmental, business, and regulatory landscapes. The gaps between technical sciences, visual systems, and the vernacular of human consciousness are vast, which is precisely why we shouldn't shy away from bridging them. I envision my company not as a wordsmith polishing prose, but as a translator of sorts, rendering the languages of industry, movement, technology, art, and more as structures that are legible, accessible, inspiring, and productive.

We operate at the intersection of traditional precision and modern innovation. While the industry shifts toward rapid AI integration and automated content, my focus remains on meaningful benchmarks: exploring new bodies of knowledge to solve existing and emerging human problems. Whether it is instructional design for complex systems or neuro-inclusive content audits, I prioritize the quality and thoughtfulness that add meaning to our lives.

As the owner of Sandstone, I lead every project with the directness of a scholar and the agility of a strategist. My approach is built on two pillars:

  • Direct Leadership: I am the primary architect of the work that is asked of me, ensuring that every deliverable meets the highest intellectual and professional standards.

  • Infinite Scalability: My business has thrived in the "Agile Studio" model. I personally execute core strategies, but maintain a vetted network of subcontractors to ramp up production support very quickly, matching the scale of any project without sacrificing quality.

My career—spanning over three decades, multiple continents, published works, and a doctorate—has taught me that the most rewarding time investment happens at the moment of synchronicity, when facilitation and design bring an idea to its most valuable form. I am not just a service provider; I excel in articulating the world we live in, and I work diligently to meet your business goals and objectives to earn the honor of keeping it that way.

For thirty-seven years, my professional life has been defined by two parallel drives: an exacting love for the written word and an insatiable curiosity for the languages of new fields—be they technical, visual, or theoretical.

From managing a successful editing firm to teaching college-level writing and navigating the complexities of a PhD, I have treated every project as a rigorous field of study. I believe that professional agency is not found in the specific task assigned, but in the attitude one takes toward ensuring a positive outcome.

I am as comfortable in the weeds of production as I am in the heights of project leadership. I thrive in environments that prize quality over speed, where research and refinement are seen as essential rather than optional. Whether working on-site or remotely, I value a work culture of synchronicity, where diverse minds come together to make the world more legible and accessible. I am a firm believer that an inspired innovator can elevate an entire team, and I am committed to being that presence.

Whether working independently or across borders, my goal remains the same: to bring out the most valuable qualities in an idea, a product, or a student.

Also I'm an award-winning author and a painter, potter/sculptor, and digital/collage artist.
